All within a 10 minute driving radius – or if you want to accept the half hour walk to burn off all the goodies you’re about to experience; this is my downtown foodie district guide to get you through a good few days of culinarly devotion – including a few sights to see along the way.
So throw on your comfy shoes and your strechiest pants and lets go!
📍Saint James – 170 James Street North
Looking for a midday brunch? Saint James should be the only stop on your track! With probably no more than 20 seats, this is such a clean, open plan little niche cafe and the food is so delicious!
Avocado Toast – seems to be a fan favourite and I can see why!
Avocado, Sourdough, lentils sprinkled with a hint of chilli and sunny side egg to top it all off – perfect balance in every bite and definatley a dish to tell your friends about.
Note: Walking along James street, it’s hard to not stop in at all the independent stores along the way. There’s nothing like a bit of retail therapy especially when it’s all supporting local businesses!
📍Hotti Biscotti – 142 James Street North
Next stop down the road you’ll find Hotti Biscotti; cutest setup and endless flavours of delicious biscotti! We met Debby the owner who was super welcoming and let us try some samples of her tasty creations. Head down to try out some classics or just go down for a chat!
Original or Vanilla Birthday Cake
📍Mulberry Street Coffeehouse – 193 James Street North
This cute cafe has light food and yummy snack; and a tea and coffee list that is bound to keep you going for the day…check out their sidewalk patio too, it’s lush in the sun!
Chicken and Avocado toast 🥑
📍Chocolat on James – 123 James Street North
Sweet tooth? The tooth fairy needs to make this her new home! Everything you can imagine dipped in chocolate – even potato chips! Staff are super nice and helpful too! Great wee place!
Chocolate dipped Oreos…yep!
📍Donut Monster – 246 Locke Street South
Step aside Krispy Kreme; These guys are taking over!! Selling out their adorable neat shop on Locke street, they also wholesale to different retailers around the city making them super accessible. An absolute must try.
Tequila and Lime – it’s essentially a margarita cake..come on!!
Note: Between these two is a little alleyway that holds this little vintage beauty! Keep your eyes peeled!
📍Earth to Table; Bread Bar – 258 Locke Street South
Busy little joint a few doors down from Donut Monster, Authenic good food in the heart of the city. Pizzas looked incredible and they have a great selection of produce and drinks.
The Charcuterie board 🍖
Now that summer is coming slowly but surely; these little gems are definatley my go to; and hopefully now yours!!
